Atelier Track Design

Once over 14.000 people worked in the Ford automotive factory in Genk, producing over 1.300 cars each day. When the factory closed, the former assembly building was abandoned and the city was thrown into a recession. The Flemish government commissioned this study to investigate how the site could be redeveloped as a pioneer in a Circular Economy.

Our proposal investigates the flows of raw materials, water, people, electricity, heat, hydrogen and garbage in order to create alliances and generate a symbiosis among different industries. Special attention is given to the process of transition to establish a Circular Economy.
