Flour Millery Moulart

[collaboration with Pieter-Jan Debuyst]
A design competition tries to breathe new life in the old flour milling factory “Moulart” by creating a new congress center and some office spaces.  The existing buildings are quite iconic and are highly valued by the heritage department. This challenged us to design a contemporary building, while preserving the industrial character of the site.
Our proposal adds a floating, sculptural volume between the two buildings, accommodating an auditorium. This volume acts as an eyecatcher, displaying the rebirth of the old factory to the neighborhood. A second volume solves the vertical circulation, interacting through its glass facade with the courtyard.
